ECUADORIAN DEMAND THAT THE DIRECTOR OF THE IMF DOES NOT ENTER TO THE COUNTRY DUE TO HIS HIGH DANGER

Posted on February 22 2005
With a symbolic protest, that evoked the Spanish conquerors, 50 activists presented to the National Director of Migration a demand to prevent the entry of the spanier Rodrigo Rato, Director of the International Monetary Fund, because he is a "man of high danger".

Rodrigo Rato will come to Ecuador to meet with president Gutiérrez and the minister of Economy to ratify the posession of the oil, electricity, telecommunications and water, among other things, for the transnational capital. These awardings already were a commitment in 2004 in the last letter of intent signed with the IMF. Several national authorities have announced that the structural reforms to these sectors will occur under the form of a LAW called "TROLLEY 4".

The Minister of Foreign Trade, Ivonne Baki, also has confirmed that the approval of the LAW "TROLLEY 4" is of high interest for the negotiations of the FTA with the U.S. and she hopes that the current parliamentary majority approves it quickly.

The activists expressed in their demand that the pretension of Rodrigo Rato of entering our country would constitute, therefore, the violation of article 9, literal 14, of the Law of Migration. This article sanctions with the prohibition from enter the country all foreigner whom "tries to undertake activities detrimental
to the public interest and to jeopardize national prestige and security".

In relation to the action refering the Spanish conqueror, the organizers explained that it illustrates the bloody invasion of international financial organisms like the IMF, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization.
